Five Points Association Presents 29th Annual Chili Cook-Off in Five Points

Monday, November 7, 2016

This Saturday, November 12, 2016, the Five Points Association (FPA) will be hosting the 29th Annual Chili Cook-Off in Five Points. Patrons will have the chance to watch teams battle it out to see who has the best chili in Columbia. The Chili Cook-Off will be from noon to 6pm at the intersection of Greene Street and Pavilion Avenue and is free to the public. Starting at noon, patrons can taste and enjoy over 30 unique chili varieties with lots of fixings for a donation and experience live entertainment for the entire family.

Anyone can sign up to compete in the Chili Cook-Off on FPA’s website, FivePointsColumbia.com. Chilis will be tried by a panel of 10 judges and will be categorized by: Overall Best Chili, Best Vegetarian, Best Texas Chili, Best Non-Traditional, Best Bar/Restaurant. Additional categories that chef teams may compete for are Best Set-Up and the Silver Spoon Award for most monies raised.

The Cook-Off has more to offer than chili, so patrons are encouraged to bring a real appetite for food and fun. New for this year, a food truck rodeo will be on site for the non-chili lovers. Live music will be played from noon to 6pm and children are welcome all day long in the Little Pepper’s Place for a day of family fun. In conjunction with the Chili Cook-Off, the Five Points retailers will be offering sales and specials all day long.

COOK-OFF HIGHLIGHTS:
• Food Truck Rodeo – NEW THIS YEAR!
For all the non-chili eating patrons, the festival will have regional food trucks on site with varying options. Participating food trucks are Pawleys Front Porch Food Truck, City Limits BBQ, Scott Benny’s, Real Mexico, and Coldstone Creamery.

Columbia Opportunity Resource (COR) is providing additional fun for patrons of every age by hosting cornhole. Patrons are encouraged to learn more about COR’s mission and play, at no cost all day.

Patrons will have the opportunity to play bocce ball with Special Olympics South Carolina during the Chili Cook-Off.
